Hyundai may have made headlines last week with the 275 PS i30 N hot hatch, but it doesn’t mean the rest of the Korean brand’s C-segment lineup has been ignored. The company has also revealed the Hyundai i30 Fastback, a five-door notchback/sedan offering that will join the hatch and Tourer wagon to complete the range early next year.
Aside from the addition of a stubby rear end, the Fastback also gets a few unique design cues to distance itself from the hatch, including a redesigned front fascia with larger air intakes and a slim inlet under Hyundai’s Cascading Grille. The rear, meanwhile, gets broad two-piece tail lights that are reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz’s newer coupés, as well as a prominent upswept spoiler.
Breaking out the tape measure reveals that the Fastback is 115 mm longer and 30 mm lower than the hatch, measuring 4,455 mm long and 1,425 mm tall – the roofline is actually 25 mm lower to improve aerodynamics and provide a more dynamic look. The rest of the height decrease comes from the suspension, which is also 15% stiffer for better agility.
